Last couple of days I’ve been recording drums for Jenny Wilsons upcoming album at the Fashionpolice studio. Fredrik Björling from Dungen and the Guild plays a Ludwig set from early 70’s and we used the following microphones to capture it:

• Kick (inside) - Electrovoice N/D868 through MCI 400 preamp
• Kick (outside) - Neumann U87 through Chandler TG
• Snare top - Beyer M201 through MCI 400
• Snare side - Neumann KM54 through UA 610
• Rack tom - Sennheiser MD421 through MCI 400
• Floor tom - Sennheiser MD421 through MCI 400
• Overheads - A pair of AKG C-414 UBLS through Siemens V72 preamps.
• Dirt mic - Sennheiser MD21 through Siemens V676v preamp (w/ Urei 1176 LN)
• Room - Royer Labs R-122 trough a UA 610 (w/ UA LA-2)

This was definately a nice setup. First time I try a KM54 on snare. It got a nice crispy sound to it.

During the sessions with Blood Music we used two different microphone setups for drum recording.

Session one:
Kick - AKG D12
Snare - Shure SM57
Hihat - Royer R-122
Overhead - Neumann TLM49
Room mics - 2 x AKG AKG C-414 UBLS

Session two:
Kick (inside) - Electrovoice N/D868
Kick outside - Brauner Phantom
Snare (top) - Beyer M201
Snare (side) - Earthworks TC30
Rack Tom - Sennheiser MD421
Floor Tom - Senheiser MD421
Overhead - 2 x AKG C-414 UBLS

On both sessions we used a Shure SM7 on the bass cabinet and the guitar amp had Neumann U67 and Royer R-122.

Karl-Jonas sang through a Neumann U47 the first session and a U67 the second.

When was the last time I invested in a bass amp? Well, I don’t know.

Always had an eye for those small Ampeg combos. I actually intended to get an all transistor model, but found this hybrid combo instead. Almost a bargain!

Yesterday I bought one of these:

It looks boring and feels plastic but actually makes decent recordings, either in stereo or in 4.0. Now I’m looking for a suiting schock-mount because it makes a lot of sound when handheld. The included holder is barely useful.

I bought two Steinberg Nuendo 8 I/O today. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, perhaps RME ADI-8 sounds more familiar.

It’s the same piece but with a slightly different outfit.

They will fit nicely next to the RME Fireface 800. Twentysix analog inputs and outputs in good quality, at last. Anyone wants to buy my Alesis AI-3?
